Independence Day

others donned camo
make from crushed red fruit
and carried shields made from
vinegar-soaked slices
of phallic vegetables
to no avail

4rh of July

The invasion fleet
from Alpha Burgeri 3
encountered resistance

The bun-suited warriors
were no match for the screaming
native hordes

thoughts upon a tree

Will I ever ever see
a poem leafy as a tree?
Roots so deep & trunk so knotty?
Information here is spotty.
Xylem! Phloem! Beetles roem!
Peckers peck (could these be critics?)
Moss is students incomprendo
Totality is muy stupendo!
One feature poem & tree DO share:
When burnt they heat and warm the lair
(but put CO2 in the sky up there).

snake one and snake two

The whole thing is about 45 µm wide; less than 0.05 mm.

about my kitchen

purple velvet
cascades across the window
watering day

It isn't really MY kitchen.

a potent rain

we burned motile weeds all spring

stray plants lobbed seed

sprouts outraced kudzu over wall and tree

vines swelled and squeezed

at summer's end they pulled

the city down

can't leave them alone for a minute

office door swings wide
I find the potted plants
at war
philodendron death grip
acephalic jade bush

turbidites

Each storm shakes loose
another kiloton of mud
from the continental shelf
that lays its blanket

GM might be necessary

Gives me hives just thinking about it

We knew the old man
he didn't have the chops
out on the beach
hanging around the
topless lifeguard
whenever her boyfriend
had to work
seafood breath, not like he
ate it, more like he was it
never got a good look
at his feet in his tacky
flip-flop shoes
coat of broken snaps
cop said he must live
somewhere around here
always moving
he looked homeless
he looked more than homeless
he looked planetless
something about the way he
vibrated when he walked
made you wonder
if he ever talked his way
into some girl's pants
what her kid would look like anyway.

nanofic too long for twitter

Now that he held the Nasal Stud of Power, ripped from the Dark Lord in the clinch of battle, only a self- administered emergency piercing separated him from global domination. He had always hated needles.

coming this fall

A substantial collection of my poetry, both previously published and brand-new,, from Sam's Dot. Contents range from scifaiku to the longest I write (100+ lines), and from poems written 20 years ago to practically right now. The working title is "Brush fires." Watch this space.

chopped up prose

it was a simple matter
take a wrench to a few genes here
a regulatory complex there
oh
and adding the bit
about digesting concrete
and brick
then we turned the termites loose
and megalopolis trembled
