022016b

The creature fell, after it struck the planet
Swiftly through a vaporous rind
More slowly through an oxide of hydrogen
That sucked out its heat.

It came to rest in muck, was crawled upon
Draped in the finest of marine detritus
Tipped, over long years, into a crack
A conveyor inward downward
A slow ride.

Then came heat and pressure
Wrapped in a red-hot glue of semi-
Molten rock; it did survive
To surface in the heart of new mountains
It dug out, spread its wings, and flew.
