For many years I had just one plant in my office. I could never settle on a name for it, so I always just called it "the plant." But that won't work anymore. Now I have another plant. Calling them "the plants" would be ambiguous. So now they are Thing One and Thing Two. Unlike the original things one and two, they are very different from one another. One of them is a large and vigorous vine. The other is a small and young cluster of succulents. But I think they will get along. If I see the vine trying to strangle its younger sibling, I will send it it to its windowsill.
