 More pictures of the Mississippian microbial reef in North Alabama. 

 




These show parts of the same fenestrate (grid-like) bryozoan. White arrowheads point to sections through parts of the grid. White areas beneath the fossil were sheltered by it and kept open (shelter porosity). Later, calcite crystals grew to fill all the open space. Stitched together from photos with vertical dimensions of 2.5 millimeters.
