bewildered by vegetation
lobe-finned sharks quickly got a handle
on the whole terrestrial thing
they diversified
filled empty niches
eventually a few began to cogitate
wondered about old bones
long-since abandoned structures
too symmetrical to be natural
they had no more success eradicating cockroaches
than we had
looked to the stars
