By the Time the Aliens Showed Up

There were so many GM folks,

People who could breathe underwater

(they had the Innsmouth look),

Humans who could fly,

Bird-men who could swagger,

Eels so slippery

They bought Trump's golf course,

And made The Donald pay for it.

Dogs were barking up the wrong trees,

And cats were criticizing T. S. Eliot,

The Eddas of walruses were erudite, and stuff,

But of interest only to pinnipeds.

As for humans!

There were long ones, tall ones,

Black ones, brown ones,

They had fins, spots, or tusks,

Exaggerated external genitalia,

Some forked or furred, or none at all,

So by the time the aliens landed,

No one paid them any attention at all
