Elegy
We
know it's dead when it starts to rot:
imploding
galaxies,
cold
cinder suns careering everywhere,
dark
matter getting lighter.
helium
crawls up the walls,
molecules
fall apart,
even
protons die.
nearest
neighbors hardly speak,
even
light takes forever and a day,
to
get to your front door.
everything
is faster, closer, hotter,
you
merge and merge again,
till
you're all a speck,
that's
nothing and noplace,
waiting
to be born.
We
know it's dead.
