the national gallery of art, the new building, on the mall in Washington DC, has a peculiar corner. it is the one towards the center of the mall and away from the capital. Walk right up to it and look up and you'll see the wave. I suppose you could call this art, but I doubt that it was deliberate. Nevertheless, it is a little known tourist attraction!

stepping from the lander:
the sky, the scents
the creaking and chirping
of tiny creatures hidden
by unfamiliar vegetation;
we are new to this world
but we are not new
the world is not new
we don't belong here
and anything, anything
can kill us for reasons
we cannot fathom
or anticipate,
and yet its beauty
pierces our hearts
the sky, the scents
the creaking and chirping
of tiny creatures hidden
by unfamiliar vegetation;
we are new to this world
but we are not new
the world is not new
we don't belong here
and anything, anything
can kill us for reasons
we cannot fathom
or anticipate,
and yet its beauty
pierces our hearts

Liberation day plus 1
I was too busy yesterday to post this, but I spent 3 days in the hospital this week. sounds familiar? they let me out for good behavior and a high red blood cell count. so now I'm on the way to a mini family reunion in central Tennessee. it's between where I live and where my two sisters are. wish me luck!

The walk home from the bus stop was about 6/10 of a mile, and dense woods shaded the road from both sides. The year My Father was bitten by a rabid Fox, and had to have those painful shots in his belly, I wanted to run home all the way. But I couldn't run up the Curvaceous Hill (Dad's name for it); I couldn't run the entire distance. But once I could see my house, and I could see the path up through the woods to the door, the place from which we sledded every snowy winter day, then I ran, imagining a fox, foam slavering from its jaws, right behind me. It was never there, but it could have been, it could have been.
