natter

Sep. 23, 2012

This week at work I spent most of the five days working on one article about a fossil reef. The more I read through reviewer comments on a previous draft the more work I realized was needed. And it is still not done. What is next is going to be very time consuming, but when I finish that, I think I will be mostly done.

It is hard to remember what other work occupied me in the evenings. I think it was a little of a lot of different things. I did finish putting together the next issue of dreams and nightmares. This one has a drawing by d1 in it.

Still in my manual wheelchair. It has been a month. Mobility Central has more than confirmed my previous thoughts about their competence and customer service. Yesterday I took my van to the tire shop to buy a new spare tire. I ended up spending four hours there because I had to get four new tires and because they took forever. I read an entire full-length novel while I waited. I won't mention the name because I can't recommend it. And they still couldn't do the alignment, because they needed some bushings they couldn't buy on a Saturday. It was partly my fault, because I could have arranged to have the van dropped off and picked up.

d2 drove home this weekend to get the dress she has to wear to a wedding, because she needs to get it altered before the November wedding. She also is picking up some crafts supplies and tools (Crochet hooks), and needed spouse's advice on how to make a particular kind of jewelry. It involves finding nice pictures on the web, printing them out, cutting them out, varnishing them into plastic backing pieces, gluing glass half-egg shapes in front and, voilĂ : a pendant. Among other things, they need to figure out the best kind of glue to use, which it seems they did. It is amazing how many different kinds of glue spouse has! It was a football weekend, but she and her boyfriend braved the crowds to go out to a Chinese restaurant for dinner.

Almost caught up on my mail and therefore mostly cleared off my desk while not doing my main weekend task: revising two newly revised chapters of the trace fossil book. Finally started watching season two of Sherlock. The first ep was excellent, with lots of twists and turns. The second put both of us to sleep. I won't say it was bad; that determination will have to wait until we watch it again. We might have fallen asleep because we were both tired.

We still have green bell peppers growing in the garden. I thought the plants were going to croak a few days ago, but it warmed up and sun followed rain, and they seem to have perked up. The carpenters came over early yesterday and worked for a long time on the greenhouse. As a digression: for a moment there I thought I had corrected that to carp enters, and that that might lead to an interesting poem. Anyway, they are supposed to be back today.

Carp enters the blood
stream of a larger god
Protist swims in Carp
