If you missed last night's Allele lecture on the University of Alabama campus, I pity you. Especially if you were right here in Tuscaloosa and could've gone (it was free). Dr. Katie Hinde spoke about the role of mother's milk in mammalian evolution, going back to the Triassic, before evolution of the dinosaurs. the first socialization of any mammal is between mother and infant.. Thus we are trained to interact and cooperate, which is why we have culture. we also learned about some of the many attributes of milk, who gets the most, who gets the most energy intensive, who nurses the longest and why, and so much more. The crowd was standing room only, but we could have fit you in somewhere.

There will be five more evolution lectures this academic year. All of them look like they will be as exciting as this one. Be there or… you know.
