April 27, 2011 all over again?

It won't be so easy
for the next tornado
to throw a tree on our house;
last time, it missed with two out of five,
now, it only has one shot

The next ALLELE lecture at the University of Alabama is Thursday of next week: January 23. Who isn't excited by spiders? Free and open to the public.

It can be difficult to find parking on campus, but there is a parking lot right across the street, and the ticket writers don't work that late at night.

Alabama, LSU, and football

two teams
aim to crush each other's skulls
with their heads
both teams always lose
yet it remains a popular sport

the water keeps rising
but we take comfort in this:
we don't live in New Orleans
the dead won't go swimming
just cause the weather is wet
they live peacefully underground
as they should
not waiting in their little marble houses
for a chance to come out and play

Awesome auction benefits Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Tuscaloosa. Lots of cool stuff, including pesto made by my wife.

Part of the auction is online--whatever you buy that way will be shipped to you.

About a month ago I switched from one of those national chains to the local 15th St. Pharmacy in Tuscaloosa. The staff are more pleasant and more knowledgeable and prices are distinctly lower. Lower on everything, up to 33% cheaper. Supporting a local business and have a better experience in every way.

Shakespeare in Tuscaloosa

Measure for Measure, for the #MeToo era will be presented May 29-June 1, 2019 Wed-Sat, Park at Manderson Landing of Allen Bales Theatre, depending on weather. This is one of Shakespeare's "problem plays" as, despite its clowns like Elbow, Pompey, Mistress Overdone, its primary focuse is on the abuse of power, especially sexual power. While this may make the play hard to categorize, it is brilliant and stunningly honest theatre. As per usual, music will precede the show at 7:30 and the curtain will be at 8pm. And it is FREE

This is a link to an hour-long television show called "Speaking Evolution." The show focuses on problems and solutions with regard to teaching evolution. It features voices of many evolutionary scientists explaining in clear terms what it's all about.
