Hitching Post
At first it seemed
weird
folks carrying
others on their shoulders
arms hanging down
like scarves
(thoughtful riders
made sure to match)
heads wobbling like
a cud-chewing cow
glassy stares &
drool
they can walk, can't
they?
So many other
questions:
squat or duck in
doorways?
Turing card. Up to
date?
Which entity hangs
in the closet until use?
Which trades which
in for a new model?
Now we've all got
'em
comfortably settled
on antimacassars
on shoulders &
crown
they reach the high
cabinets
& shelves, so that's handy
& shelves, so that's handy
stool & ladder
sales hit rock
bottom
I'll never drag
anything out from under
a bed or dresser on
my own again
shoes last forever,
or not long at all
but there are so
many mouths to feed
and just the other
day
an uncle got jammed
up
lost his head.
