Deforestation
We
were all outside, that day
you
don't get many earthquakes here
but
the dishes rattled off the shelves
plaster
cracked, windows faster
I
skedaddled, Ma too, and the dog
We
were all “Wha? This ain't
southern
California!”
Then
we saw the ship.
It
was big, round, just like Hollywood
sucking
up all the plants:
trees,
shrubs, daffodils, all flowers
flying
into the big hole in the saucer
no
grass, not even crab grass.
It
flew off and lawns are all
we
have left. They took all
the
greenery for 20 miles
“Don't
that beat all” my neighbor said
I
couldn't agree more.
