off the Canadian West Coast
mussels are boiling alive
they can't wait for the pot
so eager are they
would-be suicide bombers
stuck in a pot so much bigger than a whale

a mega whale that has swallowed
the world's biggest ecosystem
a metaecosystem, if that's a word
a place where super colossal drones
swim unknown to us
sucking down fish like jewels
spitting out the scales
their hands the size of ships
krakens that never see the sun
but unlike vampires
they don't miss it
they don't know that the seas will boil away
when the sun turns red giant
on our asses
cooks the whole dang planet
only a few billion years after
we pollute the entire planet
the biosphere will have to start again
with lichens and bacteria
no problem
it's done it before
and maybe next time
it will avoid the whole primate thing
and go straight to bees or ants
collective consciousness
insect telepathy
clearly the way to go, in retrospect
surely a field full of fire ant colonies
couldn't do worse
