POGO, Hijinks from the Horn of Plenty: volume 8 of the complete syndicated strips, is out from Fantagraphics https://www.fantagraphics.com/! This is a large-format well-made hardback that will last. Pogo was the best comic strip of its day, and that day stretched from the late 1940s into the 1970s. Mixing slapstick and incisive social and political commentary, Pogo was the first strip that ever dealt seriously with American politics. With beautiful graphics and text that was by turns hilarious and horrifying, Pogo always repaid its readers for their time, many times over*. Pogo has been reprinted at least three times that I know of before this effort from Fantagraphics, but other publishers have always faltered not long after they got started. Fantagraphics is committed to publishing classic comics and brand new cutting-edge comics and they do both very well.Even if you are not interested in Pogo, you should check them out. But really, who could be uninterested in Pogo?

*If you only read Pogo newspaper strips every now and then, you might be forgiven for saying "What?! I don't get it." But keep on, and you will.
