Southern Louisiana is in a drought again, with little prospects of rain in sight. This is bad for farmers and gardeners, but it is good for me. The lowest part of our backyard is still soft mud, a relic of winter rain. Well, winter is over* and spring is cooking, and I can drive from one end of the yard to the other, mauger the wet spot in the middle that I have to avoid. I can tour the garden, and we are picking basil, parsley, radishes, carrots, and snow peas. The onions are big enough to use, but we haven't pulled any of them yet. Not much is blooming yet, but we have lots of flowers planted. If we water the garden, I will get to enjoy it. Nevermind that the rain barrel has only a little scum in the bottom, and the grass and trees are growing slower and slower and slower.
*Only here, ha ha.

I suppose it would be in poor taste, to wish you a pleasant Independence Day...(?)
