Transfer of Power

Solar-powered nanobots hovered over the cornfield, sucking in 75% of the sunlight and reflecting the rest. Nowikski fired his shotgun into the “umbrella,” disturbing it momentarily. An EMP emitted by the cloud as a tight beam struck Nowikski in the chest, burnt out the chip of his pacemaker, and fried the phone in his shirt pocket. He almost made it to the house. The corn took days to die. Des Moines deployed cropdusters to disrupt its nanobiotic pall, but the nanobots blown aside by the planes' passage resumed their stations in moments.
