Anybody who has a yard and can't mow has experienced this. Lawn services vary a lot in quality and a lot in price, but those two parameters don't vary together. Here in Baton Rouge we went with a guy who was recommended. He charged us $70 and did a pretty good job. We were a little unhappy with him because he stopped calling to schedule and evidently expected me to call him. Even more than that, he was surly. I'm pretty sure that's just his nature.

As I pulled in to the drive one day, somebody was driving by with a mowing rig on a trailer. He stopped to ask if I wanted the grass cut. I was in a mood about our previous lawn service so I said sure. He did the job every bit as well as the first guy, for $45. I actually don't know how he can make a living that way! On the other hand, the first guy brings a crew of people who don't look like they would work at all if he wasn't there watching them, whereas the second guy works alone. But wait, there's more. he's out there today and my caregiver was grousing about how much she has to pay to get her yard cut. I told her she should talk to this guy and he's giving me a $5 discount for recruiting her. I didn't expect that and wouldn't have asked for it, but it sure is nice.
