17th International Ichnofabric Workshop

In case any ichnologists (trace-fossil and modern-trace researchers) stumble across this blog...

We cordially invite you to register for the 17th International Ichnofabric Workshop, which will be held in Faxe, Denmark, from 24 to 26 October 2023. The deadline for registration is 1 June; the deadline for submitting abstracts is 17 July.

Website: https://ichnology2023.dk/

This will be an in-person meeting. We wish to bring ichnologists – all kinds of ichnologists – together to meet and begin collaborations as well as to inform one another in talks. There will be ample time for interacting in a relaxed atmosphere as well as to deliver oral and poster presentations.

There will be two physical field trips, one before the meeting and one after. The pre-meeting field trip (23 October) will be a one-day excursion to the famous Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary exposure of Stevns Klint, which is close to Faxe. The post-meeting field trip (27-29 October) will feature ichnofossiliferous Palaeozoic and Mesozoic outcrops on the Danish island of Bornholm and in southern Sweden – including outcrops that trained the eyes of Richard Bromley, his students and colleagues. Bornholm is located in the Baltic Sea, a considerable distance from the rest of Denmark. Extra fees will be assessed for the field trips.

There will also be virtual (Zoom) field trips on weekends before and after the conference. These will feature a selection of the best modern and ancient trace-fossil outcrops that Alabama and Georgia (USA) have to offer – as a postscript to the virtual 16th International Ichnofabric Workshop, hosted by the University of West Alabama. There is no charge for attending the virtual field trips, though we will ask people to register for them to ensure a smooth Zoom experience. More information on them later!

I know you have plenty of questions! Will my Abstract count as a publication? Yes, there will be an edited Abstract Book. We also encourage speakers to convert their talks into full manuscripts for publication in a journal theme issue. Is Faxe hard to reach? No, it is easily reached by rail from Copenhagen’s international airport. What about meals? We will be happy to accommodate your dietary needs. Oh, and how long before I have to decide? Well, that is a problem. We can only hold the hostel a few more days, so please register and reserve your lodgings by 1 June.
