Good news on the rehabilitation front. We drove an hour and a half to New Orleans so that I could get tested on a Functional Electrical Stimulation bike at the Touro Outpatient Rehab clinic. The rehab therapist was very nice, and after some initial figuring out how to get me in the right position and make sure my legs wouldn't rub against any part of my chair, I pedaled for about 3 minutes. It would be about 45 if they decide this is going to work for me. The motor-driven cycling motion is very good physical therapy, but she said I also had some response to the electrical stimulation. The goal is to be able to ride only with that, which would strengthen my muscles, and not have to use the motor. I go back in a month for more testing, fingers crossed. And we beat the hard rain that's gonna fall soon.
No place here in the state capital has an FES bike.
