Double Shot of My Cosmos' Love

First Alabama, then Uganda, now France,
only three people known to be struck
by extraterrestrial chunks.
Poor Ann Hodge had a breakdown,
died young;
a Ugandan boy, whacked in 1992,
was not injured;
let's hope the French woman's
made of sterner stuff than Ms. Hodge,
she may have simply,
after the fuss died down,
ordered another espresso.
Why mostly women?
Sure, they account for 51%
of the population, but
is that all there is to it?
Maybe the sample size, three,
is too small for meaningful analysis;
meteorites might have pelted
Neanderthal and Denisovan women,
maybe Lucy was nearly brained
by space junk,
but Earth's human population was small,
perhaps a few hundred thousand
in the Paleolithic, less before then.
Now, with more than 8 billion of us,
it's surprising there haven't been more.
The club's exclusive,
one or two living members,
but is it too soon to draw up
a mission statement, bylaws,
start collecting dues?
