Mouthful

A fresh sinkhole intersected a previously unknown cave. We set out to map it, but found ourselves traversing a vermiform and interminable cavern. Food and water ran out, but we subsisted on glowing bulbous fungoid growths, which tasted like chicken, and on the cave's crystal-clear longitudinal watercourse. The cavern began to shrink; we soon had to stoop beneath the roof. The fungoids diminished and acquired a bitter flavor, and the light grew dim. We emerged from the shrunken tube at last, into a vast cavern lined with immense stony fangs.
