Steven C. Minkin Paleozoic Footprint site
Standing the huge slab of shale on its side, mud, more than 300 million years ago. Tap with a chisel, and there are tiny footprints running from one side to the other. What little critter, looking to you or me like a salamander, ran across this flat? Another, another, well over 5,000 and counting. This former coal mine was once a very busy place! Check out the Alabama jMuseum of Natural History or the McWane Center to see the real thing. Members of the Alabama Paleontological Society discovered this site and made sure it was preserved.
