This one makes me think of the Visigoth sack of Rome in 410, or the Celts in Delphi.

Then again, it could just as easily be describing the crumbling effigy of a medieval knight, sadly forgotten, ravaged by time and neglect.

Was actually thinking of a defeated superhero, but I like your knight interpretation as well. Doesn't seem violent enough 4 the sack of Rome.
