colony ship

not much of a moon

A look at Jovian astronomy as a scifaiku:

Europa’s
been slapped around a bit
she can’t leave her Da

Or does it work better as a lune?

Europa’s been slapped
too often
Jupiter’s handprints

Maybe a fib:

look
at
her face
Jupiter’s
worked her over good
but still Europa doesn’t leave

Grandma stepped
from the time machine
Dad in her arms

here's your kid she told me
he needs changing

future-me
his old time machine
for like-new comix

he invested
in growth stocks
left with my daughter

great grandma's
only surviving photo

I recognize
her smile and locket
i hate myself

Scifaiku going digital

Inverted Folk

I published this tiny collection of scifaiku in 2012 as a trifold brochure. It's all my own work (except a photo [Sheila Kopaska-Merkel] and the brochure design [F. J. Bergmann]), and many of the poems appeared nowhere else. It includes a photomicrograph, taken by me, of weird and alien creatures. If you want a pdf, it's free for the asking: jopnquog at gmail.com.

Dwarf Stars submission deadline May 15

Guidelines:

http://www.sfpoetry.com/dwarfstars.html

In brief, anyone may nominate speculative poems of 10 lines or fewer, first published in 2015. The poems in this and any blog are eligible, as well as those in any print or digital publication. They just have to be from 2015, and short enough. The short poems in this blog are not reprints.

Took too long to water the plants

constant drip from one rusty faucet
mile after mile of wilting begonias
peppers, hydrangeas, and more

Diane Severson talks scifaiku at Amazing Stories

Here:

http://amazingstoriesmag.com/2015/03/genre-poetry-round-march-2015-haiku/

She mentions this blog. Most of these are written in ~ 5 seconds. Not the best way to maximize quality, but some days it's all the time I have.

Sales

Recently sold poems to NewMyths.com, Star*line, @7X20, Scifaikuest, and Cthulhu Haiku 2. A lucky temporal clustering event.

Inverted Folk

I have assembled a three-fold pamphlet of my favorites of my own scifaiku from the list year or two. It might be of some slight interest, and is available for $2 or comes free with a subscription or subscription extension to DN.
