You know, when I first heard the beastie boys, I thought they really sucked. They have grown on me. I guess my favorite song of theirs is intergalactic, but I actually enjoy all the ones that get played on the radio. Don't know why that came into my head, but there is.
If you are here, and you haven't been to the main dreams and nightmares site, you might want to check it out. Among other things there are some audio files of me reading my poetry. I'm not a particularly good reader, but you might find it interesting. There are also lots of scanned covers and tables of contents of back issues.
At this point, dreams and nightmares 81 (September 2008) is out and issue 82 (January 2009) is full. I am reading for the May 2009 issue.
Last year I did a fundraiser for the East Tuscaloosa community soup bowl. That's my neighborhood soup kitchen. It isn't really quite in my neighborhood, but it's close. Anyway, I sold lifetime subscriptions to dreams and nightmares and donated some of the money to the soup bowl. I want to do a fundraiser for them this winter, and I've been mulling over a couple of ideas. One idea is to sell custom poems. You give me some money and tell me what you wanted and I would do my best to write it. You might want a science fiction poem for your cousins birthday. You might want something for your wedding anniversary. I don't know. You get to choose. You can even say that you wanted a Fibonacci-no ku or free verse or anything but free verse and I would do my best. Another idea is to donate part of the regular two-year dreams and nightmares subscription. I might sell more of them than of the more expensive lifetime one. I have a book coming out in December. Another possibility would be to sell inscribed copies of that with a portion of the money going to a fundraiser. So if anyone has any ideas about what might be the best way to raise more money for the soup kitchen, I would really appreciate your suggestions.
