Awesome auction benefits Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Tuscaloosa. Lots of cool stuff, including pesto made by my wife.

Part of the auction is online--whatever you buy that way will be shipped to you.

Annual Sale & Charity Fundraiser

2014 charitable donation

Every year during the holiday season I do some kind of deal with Dreams and Nightmares involving charitable donations. This year, I have decided to raise money for Doctors Without Borders. So half of any lifetime subscription to Dreams and Nightmares is going to that remarkable organization. That means if you buy a lifetime digital subscription, $20 of your $39 goes to Doctors Without Borders. If you buy a lifetime print plus digital subscription, $45 of your $90 goes to them.

Subscribe by sending the money via PayPal to jopnquog@gmail.com, or sending a check made out to David C. Kopaska-Merkel, 1300 Kicker Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.

This is happening now through the end of November. Maybe you want to buy somebody a gift subscription. Here is your chance to deliver great speculative poetry and do good at the same time.

Thank you,
David

But wait, there's more!

All of my books are on sale. This applies to books ordered directly from me, not from the publishers, and they will all be signed. This isn't part of the donation, but it is a sale:

Walk to Remember

To benefit Caring Days, our local day program for adults with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorder, I will be walking (actually rolling) as part of Walk to Remember (Aug. 23). If anyone wants to sponsor me, please make checks to “Caring Days” with “Walk 2 Remember” in the memo line (mail to me at 1300 Kicker, Tuscaloosa AL 35404). A check will serve as evidence of a tax-deductible contribution. I can also accept paypal donations (jopnquog@gmail.com). Thank you for your generosity.

Donate anything & I'll send you 5 PDFs of issues of Dreams & Nightmares.

Soup kitchen fundraiser 10 days left

This soup kitchen is in my neighborhood, sensu lato, and it's often neglected in favor of bigger charities located downtown. ETCSB serves the area devastated by the Apr. 27th 2011 tornado, as well as adjacent working class neighborhoods.

charity fundraiser

Dreams & Nightmares annual charity fundraiser

Buy an inscribed copy of my new book, Nursery Rhyme Noir (http://dreamsandnightmaresmagazine.blogspot.com/2008/11/forthcoming-book-nursery-rhyme-noir.html) for $14 postpaid, and I'll donate $4 to my local soup kitchen: the East Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl (http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20070819/NEWS/708190358/1007/RSS&source=RSS). I'll also renew my previous offer: a lifetime subscription to Dreams & Nightmares (http://dreamsandnightmares.interstellardustmites.com/) (including available back issues) for $90, with $25 donated.

Last year I was able to give the Soup Bowl $50. This year I'd like to do better.

so what you want?

You know, when I first heard the beastie boys, I thought they really sucked. They have grown on me. I guess my favorite song of theirs is intergalactic, but I actually enjoy all the ones that get played on the radio. Don't know why that came into my head, but there is.

If you are here, and you haven't been to the main dreams and nightmares site, you might want to check it out. Among other things there are some audio files of me reading my poetry. I'm not a particularly good reader, but you might find it interesting. There are also lots of scanned covers and tables of contents of back issues.

At this point, dreams and nightmares 81 (September 2008) is out and issue 82 (January 2009) is full. I am reading for the May 2009 issue.

Last year I did a fundraiser for the East Tuscaloosa community soup bowl. That's my neighborhood soup kitchen. It isn't really quite in my neighborhood, but it's close. Anyway, I sold lifetime subscriptions to dreams and nightmares and donated some of the money to the soup bowl. I want to do a fundraiser for them this winter, and I've been mulling over a couple of ideas. One idea is to sell custom poems. You give me some money and tell me what you wanted and I would do my best to write it. You might want a science fiction poem for your cousins birthday. You might want something for your wedding anniversary. I don't know. You get to choose. You can even say that you wanted a Fibonacci-no ku or free verse or anything but free verse and I would do my best. Another idea is to donate part of the regular two-year dreams and nightmares subscription. I might sell more of them than of the more expensive lifetime one. I have a book coming out in December. Another possibility would be to sell inscribed copies of that with a portion of the money going to a fundraiser. So if anyone has any ideas about what might be the best way to raise more money for the soup kitchen, I would really appreciate your suggestions.
