Filthy Lucre
Masquerading as coins, the diminutive aliens occupied small bowls and jars everywhere. Many, unable to climb out, starved, or engaged in cannibal feeding frenzies. "Who's been stealing the dang pennies?" was a common refrain among the clueless humans. When well-fed half-dollar and dollar coins, and their equivalents elsewhere, struck, humans were utterly taken by surprise. The invaders spent their lives like water. Only the humans' plastic shock troops prevented economic disaster.
