The Ones That Get Away
The giant fish, baked in a solar oven that was built around and over it, fed the survivors from the fishing village it had crushed when it leaped from the sea, fleeing the mosasaur called Leviathan. Most of the flesh of the fish was subsequently dried on racks made from its ribs, and traded to other settlements along the coast. Other bones, intricately carved, would fetch fabulous prices. Offal was hauled to the shallows, where crabs and small fish quickly assimilated it. But the fish had mated, and had laid eggs.
