the beautiful young people
don't shop early Saturday
at the supermarket
when they stroll in
the good sales are transformed
to metal shelving
ah, but the memories!
(or lack thereof)

you can't ruin the party
call it what you will
just bring some food
getting together with people
you see once a year
as well as friends

The Fires
of Heck
Ants
swarm the cake dish;,
it’s the queen’s birthday:
nothing too good,
no risk too great.
The
papier-mache dragon,
on guard from the mantle
belches wood pulp,
which they ignore.
Dragon
dreams a fairy, blue,
wants real flesh,
and a prehensile tongue,
teach the vermin a lesson,
and then take flight.

Morning At the Mantis's
What a party! Husks of spermatophores stuck all over the living room
floor. The carpet still sticky. Whose gamete packets did she take in
last night? And whose headless body was lying out by the mailbox?

back from my trip
Here are 6 from my trip to a midwestern surprise birthday party. And yay for noob Alex!
under parking lot lights
only the nondriver wakeful
my chair gleams
under black balloons
doorbell rings
snowdrops and daffodils
bloom back home
new nephew laughs
abandoned mall
call you smell what recession's
cooking?
Ozark mountain woods
thrust bare branches skyward
narrow towns sleep
feet up
and keyboard light green
I'm back
under parking lot lights
only the nondriver wakeful
my chair gleams
under black balloons
doorbell rings
snowdrops and daffodils
bloom back home
new nephew laughs
abandoned mall
call you smell what recession's
cooking?
Ozark mountain woods
thrust bare branches skyward
narrow towns sleep
feet up
and keyboard light green
I'm back
