Raising Alabama's gas tax 10 cents per gallon to repair roads and bridges is wrong-headed and classist. It will punish working poor people, many of whom will no longer be able to put gas in their cars. Kay Ivey needs to find a way to fix the state's problems without, once again, taking from the poor what they need to live. This naked attempt to make the poor poorer is disgusting.

A comment on part of a wonderful sermon I didn't hear

closing women's clinics condemns
young women to poverty & despair
it arrogates to bigots
decisions that should be personal
it murders dreams
it murders women
it is not the worst thing
it is not genocide

the bar is that low

at least our neighbors
legislators in Montgomery
legislators in Mississippi
legislators in Texas
are not actually ordering genocide
they're righteously doing
the next best things

kicking poor women when they're down
blocking their futures
stealing their choices
any way they can

so, this poem sucks
no lie
but it doesn't condemn thousands
to lives of pain
and despair
it doesn't presume
to tell you what to do
it won't even vote against you
hypocrites come November
but I will
