Smells like First Contact


We tried to appreciate
their olfactory poetry
it was no more moving
than their scratch and sniff street signs
they have more than 600 words for "fart"
each of them an odor
not a sound
we eventually worked out
a sign language protocol
it was then we discovered
they didn't like the way we smelled
