Smells like First Contact


We tried to appreciate
their olfactory poetry
it was no more moving
than their scratch and sniff street signs
they have more than 600 words for "fart"
each of them an odor
not a sound
we eventually worked out
a sign language protocol
it was then we discovered
they didn't like the way we smelled

I haven't done any traditional crowdfunding for several reasons. One of them is that there are a lot of things in this world more urgent than reading poetry. I just don't like to put myself out there in the same marketplace where people are raising money to pay for cancer treatment.
