Tasty

Something moving with the wind
Reminds me of sweet-olive trees
Blooming in winter,
This whole world is as sweet
As grandma’s kitchen,
Dawn smells like a bun from the oven,
The marsh between our camp
And the sea of sweet cream butter,
But this new scent,
This new one, reminds me
Of a cat house,
The big one, at the zoo,
But oh so tasty,
And maybe a little hungry

Frogs live on no evil star

Well shoot, how could they, it would be too hot!
They’d burn their little tootsies, it would be a pain,
And for another thing, on the shuttle there’s no spot,
For any two-inch froggy ass, and like as not,
If there were, no space suits could be found to fit.
And alterations sure would cost a lot.

They got there, let’s suppose that for a bit,
Once there, how would they reproduce?
There’s no pond or creek on Betelgeuse!
Besides, their food is flies, but if they lived upon the sun,
They’d starve; no Diptera are there, not one.
Send a frog to space? You’d have to be insane!

I’d rather be a doggerel-spewing poet!
Oops, I fear that hope is vain.

Hard Landing

After the crash,
we staggered into a new world.
Mad patches of color
and indecipherable odors
assaulted our battered senses.

Something stung me and died,
our food burned with the ship,
night came with a chill breese,
and an unseen choir
sang us under waves of sleep.
