How far back would you go identifying speculative poetry published before the SFPA was founded in 1978? All the way to Gilgamesh? tto some of these palms deserve  to be recognized with awards? I know the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America is doing this with fiction.

But they conquered the immobile clade.

Chloros moved in so unobtrusively that, before anyone knew, we all were living in the emerald city.

Cut another, or are they gone?

The vase contained no water, only the desiccated remnant of the Singing Rose. Damn that girl! Had she forgotten, or was this jealousy?

Rough Weed

No one at the feeder; it's stuffed with GM seed. Delicate bones amid the feral sunflowers tell the story: this stuff bites back.

Scrapyard Altar

They sacrificed these "cars" year after year. Note the degeneracy of later times. The offerings were much smaller, and contained much less precious metal. At the last they were become scarcely more than animals, impiously stealing older sacrifices from the glorious heaps of their ancestors' devotion.

Choke on dem bones

Unfortunately, Roc blinked at just the wrong moment, and flew straight into Leviathan's mouth. Jonah ate like a king for months

So sad

It turned out that the natives' grubs were addictive to the nth degree. Native intelligence was wiped out within three generations by the insatiable colonists from Terra. Withdrawal symptoms then wiped out the colony, and sapient life forms, never abundant, vanished from the quadrant.

Think it's safe?

The Puttiites were squeezed into a corner. Just the way they liked it.

An Oasis Somewhere Out There

Cameras circled lower, lower, lower, as Lizard Girl crawled across the burning sand. A daring video eye moved in for a closeup. Snap!

011115-review

Rereading Roger Zelazny's The Changing Land, sequel to Dilvish the Damned, about an elvish lord who goes to hell & back. Fusion of quest fantasy & the Cthulhu Mythos. 4/5 stars.

Strike Two

All that was left of the natives' villages were scattered twigs & gnawed bones. Not much better than the straw-house folk.

Probably why they went extinct, too

Unfortunately, the natives had constructed their monuments from straw, and they had all been blown down by some sort of fierce predator

At least she writes, unlike her sisters

Dear Ma

We're doing fine here on New Nouveau Earth, or N(2)Dirt, as little Jema calls it. Too bad about New America, but at least there'll be fewer mouths to feed. We're planting beef trees again, maybe this time the udders'll ripen before frost. Love to Denis & the octuplets,

The Translation of Ms Emily Fizbiegn

The Translation was complete by the time I reached the house. I retrieved one of her shoes from its hiding place under a couch.

Shoggoths? I don't believe they exist!

cyclopean ruins
dating to when Antarctica was warm
tunnels bore deep
hieroglyphic tales carved mile after mile
in the lower lithosphere
walls defaced by graffiti
a warm wind from the nether reaches

what is that stench?
