It's just like being
snowed in
Pioneer Nebraska
sod house with a small smoke hole
savages all around
inside, too
after being stuck
in a small round room together
for a month or two
just like that
except, outside it's spring
flowers blooming, bees humming
and on the glowing box
almost the entire world
also
no wood to chop
just to stay alive

gunshops and liquor stores
     essential services
     can't live without 'em
hair shops and nail salons
     doors barred
frantic customers
distraught over their nails and weaves
can't work; have no rest
which other businesses, they ask
do so much good
so little harm
keep the economy humming

it's enough to drive them to drink
