Warmer, today, than most of last week. Got various things done, including grocery shopping, one of my main jobs I couldn't do while I was sick.

We have not yet had winter in Alabama, but we still have three or four weeks during which could occur. I hope it does, at least for a couple of days, because I have a new elf hat and moebius scarf made by my daughter. I can wear the hat in my office, which is refrigerated year-round, but I can only wear the scarf if it gets cold outside. As climate change progresses, it will soon become impossible for me to wear the winter accessories my children have made for me except when I visit them. So, for my sake, stop wasting fossil fuels!

Global climate changeth

The IPCC is the international group responsible for the best information/science on climate change, but the U.S. has a large federal research initiative independent of the IPCC. The "United States Global Research Program" has hundreds of scientists and policy-makers from many different agencies. Their assessments (last 2009) are published. Here are some links. Note also under Key Findings the following:

"Global warming is unequivocal and primarily human-induced.
Global temperature has increased over the past 50 years. This observed increase is due primarily to human-induced emissions of heat-trapping gases. (p. 13)"

Getting old


All winter I fantasize
about a solar flare
a gigantic gout of fire
erupting from the Sun's
unsettled belly.

I'm not greedy
I want just enough
to make it about 10 degrees
warmer
at my house.
