Do you think the ex-Prexy wrote a valentine's poem to his one true love? If he did, it might go a little something like this:

I love me,
I love me not,
well that's silly:
of course I love me,
just like everyone else,
except that traitor Pence.

Roses are red,
violets are some other color,
everyone loves me,
at least, they'd better!

Love is what the Magas have for me,
0 is what I give them (see how clever?),
V, I'm very very very special,
E, stands for something.

Roses are red

Pink or white too

One thing they're not

Roses aren't blue*

Friday the 13th
falls on a Wednesday this month
time to pull your head in
and wait for love

I haven't killed them yet. In fact, they are still visibly growing, as you can see if you look back at my previous two photos of them. Years ago, she gave me a different kind of succulent in a large pot. I put it on top of my file cabinet. When it finally died it was nearly 8 feet tall and we could no longer bring it in or out of the house through the door. I think its deathknell occurred the year I was too sick to keep a close eye on it.

My Valentine's Day present from my lovely spouse, a pot full of succulents, is growing and healthy in my office.

Roses had thorns,
But those now are lost,
A thing of the past,
To die by the frost.

It is not difficult to write a love poem. However, it is, at the best of times, difficult to write a good one. Now consider this: we have been married 37 years. That's 37 birthdays, 31 Mother's Day's, 37 Christmases, 37 Chanukahs (Yes, both), 37 Valentine's Days. I have missed a few, but in the ideal case, that would be close to 200 poems. That's a lot of endearments for someone who isn't all that sentimental. So, in recent years, I have gone with a mixture of tongue in cheek and totally unrelated to the subject. She seems to like them. And, it is the only good use for doggerel. For obvious reasons, I'm not posting any of those poems here, although I might add this year's after I give it to her
