If you thought food additives could be dangerous, you were right. Also, chemicals can move from packaging to food. There's evidence some of these suppress the immune system. So packaged food, and fast food, can make you more susceptible to Covid-19.

What the heck is wrong with people? I understand taking a job & finding out you don't really want it. Taking care of people in this country is disrespected in every way it can be. Starting off with the pay, which isn't enough to live on. This is why most of the people who take care of me also have other full-time jobs with benefits. I understand that. I also understand if you're sick, have car trouble, or have to take your grandmother to the hospital. Or whatever. But when you sign up to help me two or three times a week and you miss two thirds of the shifts, I've got to wonder. Do you have a permanent raincloud over your head following you around, or you thought you wanted the job but you don't really. In that case, your course is clear: quit. OMG! Don't keep saying you're going to come, and then call at five in the morning and say you can't. Day after day, week after week. I just don't get it.

A disturbing hangover from the weekend's illness. I have what's called an inspirometer. You suck as hard as you can on the tube and you thereby pull up a blue plug as high as you can. The scale goes from 0 to 4000 (it's otherwise not labeled). On a good day I can pull 2000. On a bad day, 1500. But this week: 1500 is my maximum. Two or three days without exercising my lungs and this is what I get?! So far nothing else seems to be wrong.

Celebrating a year since I spent time in the hospital. I like to think I have become more careful of my health.

I have been invited to be the featured poet in the February 2020 issue of Scifaikuest. This is pretty exciting! But it engenders what I used to consider a morbid thought, but now I consider a realistic one. Will I be around then? The answer to that question is to submit a sufficient number of poems as soon as possible and try to get the interview done soon as well. Just in case. If I was superstitious, I would infer that taking these precautions would protect me. Sadly, I am not superstitious at all.. Which brings to mind something an old friend, who was in a similar health situation to mine, but for a different reason, used to say: "live each day as if it is your last." Of course, many people have said this, so many that it is trite. But it is also good advice.

We are still in a water deficit from previous years, but this week it's been welcome to the rainforest. Under the weather both meteorologically and physiologically. Any rare moment I don't feel cold is bliss.

Sale to Scifaikuest. Another weekend to try to get back on schedule with DN. And another 16 tons of coal to move. Health update: cold still hanging on. Is it feed a cold or feed a fever?
