On Jupiter, it turns out, tornadoes are typically several hundred miles wide. Pity about the colony.

A Small Zoo

only one life form remains on this planet
is the planet, really
that's where you “visitors” come in
Mogul III is hungry

and the ship moved on
pushing the planetesimals aside
no rocky world coming now
no CHONic wrigglers

As the planet expanded
The innermost moon dipped lower and lower
Eventually, it grazed the surface
Mountains shattered
High plateaus were grooved
There came a time when it dived below the surface
Leaving mole-like ridges above its course
After a certain depth
No surface expression could be seen
Soon the people forgot
There had ever been a moon
It became a thing of legend, folktale, imagination
Until The next one was overtaken
By the planet in its turn

this planet
really is alive
 and it's very hungry
Gaia

And that, my dears, is why the rings

The planet collected moons:
two became three, then four, then five
as the children grew more numerous,
naturally, they shrank;
with crowding came strife
they butted heads
and other parts
till there were so many
chips off the old blocks
their parent felt surrounded
but this was a product of two dimensional thinking
after all, the poles saw nothing but clear sky
and stars
and the moons?
nought but dust now

Planetary Poem

Goddess of the burning rock,
choking fumes on heated plains,
sexy she is really not,
& Venus is her name.
