Back at work today and moving a bit like Uncle Joe from Petticoat Junction, but making it. Went to a magazine's website the other day and discovered to my horror that most of the print was dark gray on black. What possesses someone to do something like that? I was trying to enter a contest (which turned out to already be over) and I could've made a general submission, but I'm not going to reward that kind of eye-bursting design. When you're making a website, you want it to be pretty, but the absolute number one criterion must be that people can read what's on it. Otherwise, you accomplish nothing.

These jackasses in the Executive Branch are really starting to annoy me. I mean, who do they think they are? They work for us, the American people, not the clown sitting on the golden throne every morning. When they are told to lie, cheat, and commit other crimes for him, their duty is to report that. They are testifying before Congress, and either saying nothing or lying through their teeth. It's not like we don't expect it, but what happened to the idea that you would do your job? Or maybe they just misunderstood the job requirement. Maybe they thought criminal behavior was what they were hired for. Maybe the only job they are fit for is rock hockey.

Someone stole my portable ramp (which I use to get on & off curbs & in & out of most houses. My wife took it out of the car, set it down in the grass, carried the big portable ramp ~100' down the street to the next house & set it up, went back ~3 minutes later to get the little one.... (It was a two-ramp house.) We didn't even see anyone except a couple of cars going by. This is in the area devastated by the 4-27-2011 tornado: it's open & lightly settled, w many lots still bare. Many someone thought it was trash & decided to salvage it? You'd to be a fool.... Anyway, it pisses me off.

On a related note, when we finally got the post-tornado tarps down in my office I discovered that I have copies of several of my books, including my book of flash, The Simian Transcript, which I thought was no longer available at all.
